  • Question: How does the squirrel-proof design work?

    Answer: The feeder cage is 8cm away from the food, making it difficult for squirrels and larger birds to access.
  • Question: What types of food can I use in these feeders?

    Answer: The set includes feeders for seeds, fat balls, and peanuts.
  • Question: Are the feeders easy to clean and refill?

    Answer: Yes, they feature a twist and lift mechanism for easy access while refilling or cleaning.
  • Question: Are they made from all metal apart from plastic tube?

    Answer: When buying any garden metal cage or ornament use WD 40 before putting it in the garden also reapply after washing applianc.
  • Question: Is this rat proof?

    Answer: I would think if you hang them on a ready made bird feeder station rats would have great difficulty climbing it. If the rats can get to the feeder I would suspect they would be able to get at the food. It all depends where you hang/put it.
  • Question: How good are the lids at keeping the rain off and food dry?

    Answer: The lids are extremely well fitted and the squirrels can’t undo them but obviously, with the exception of the seed feeder, the peanut and fat ball feeders are not closed in so the birds can get to the food but so can the rain. To be honest, the birds eat it all before the food has a chance to go mouldy. They are very good feeders.
  • Question: Hi we purchased these in March and the tops are going rusty what can you do?

    Answer: I would say they were faulty if the tops have already started to go rusty. I have used the Gardman feeders for some years and have found that the tops may go a bit rusty after some time but they shouldn't have done so in a couple of months. Is there a guarantee? Other than that, perhaps clean them and put vaseline on them or varnish them. If it was me I would complain.
  • Question: Do these feeders keep starlings out?

    Answer: Never seen a starling in them but just recently a crafty magpie has discovered he can attack fat balls in one with his beak, then eats the fallen bits off the ground. Amazing what creatures can do. But on the whole these are great, only small birds get the seeds and nuts so worth getting in my view. We have even had a mouse in one!
  • Question: Is it squirrel proof?

    Answer: To date, these bird feeders are by far the best Squirrel and Magpie proof ones that I've bought. I am delighted with my purchase of three units and only the birds enjoy them, which is exactly my wish.
  • Question: I still want to feed woodpeckers... Can they feed from these feeders?

    Answer: They feed from the peanut and fat ball feeders but not from the sunflower heart seed feeder. Hope that helps.
  • Question: Do they come apart for ease of regular cleaning? Thanks, John.

    Answer: Hi John. Obviously the top comes off but I tend to clean them without trying to take them apart (so I don't know if they do...) in deep soapy water and scrub the metal cage and then use a long bottle brush to clean the inside and the outside of the plastic tube. Thx, Carol.
