- Fancy Leaf Caladiums have long been grown to add much needed color to shady or partially shady areas of the garden. They develop quickly and tend to have taller stems and upright heart-shaped leaves. Bloomsz Fancy Leaf Caladiums provide a showy display along pathways, driveways, and beneath shade trees almost all season long. When planted in pots, barrels, or tubs, Fancy Leaf Caladiums provide long-lasting color after the blossoms of flowering plants have faded.
- An old favorite, Red Flash produces some of the largest leaves in the caladium family. Leaves are vibrant red with tiny pink speckles and green margins. Great in the garden, it grows to a height of 2-3' and provides an excellent backdrop for lower growing border plants. And, as a bonus, it does equally as well in sun or shade.
- Caladium leaves make excellent additions to cut-flower arrangements. About 6 hours prior to making an arrangement, snip the desired number of leaves close to the bottom of the stem. Immediately place them into water. Although they will appear wilted for the first 24 hours or so, they will perk up and last for 2 to 3 weeks in the arrangement. Provide delightful leaf color and texture all summer long. Enhance driveways and walkways. Grow well beneath and around shade trees.
- Can be grown in containers both indoors and outdoors. Most effective when massed together. Bulbs are 1 ½ - 2 ½" in diameter . Plant 4-7" apart. Perennial in Zone 10. See "Growing Instructions for digging and storage directions.
- Growing Instructions: Caladium: Caladiums love hot weather and should be planted when nighttime temperatures remain above 65? F and the soil remains warm to the touch. Select a location where there is filtered sunlight to one which is in full shade. Soil should drain well. Loosen the soil and plant the tubers bumpy side (top) up about 2" deep and 8-10" apart. You may wish to add some bone meal or 6-6-6 fertilizer, following the directions on the package, to the soil before planting the tubers and once monthly thereafter. Water in thoroughly, then water just to keep the ground moist. At the end of the season, trim off yellowed foliage and cover with a light layer of mulch. In cold areas, carefully dig up the tubers before the first frost. Air-dry the tubers and store them in paper bags in a cold location or in a box with peat moss.
