HighPoint RAID Controllers RR840C Editorial Review
The HighPoint RocketRAID 840C 16-port PCIe 3.0 x8 SATA RAID Controller has garnered a mixed yet largely positive reception from customers, particularly for its performance and versatility in RAID configurations. Users have successfully transferred massive volumes of data, such as 6 TB, into RAID setups with ease, highlighting the controller's effectiveness for both video editing and general storage purposes. The WebUI for the controller is frequently praised for its user-friendliness, as it allows for straightforward setup and management of RAID arrays. Many reviews mention how customers found the installation process agreeable, with the controller being recognized by their respective systems without significant issues. However, some users have encountered challenges, notably with driver installation on Windows due to the lack of digital signatures. While most users report that drivers function correctly once installed, a few have voiced frustrations over non-responsive customer support from HighPoint regarding these driver issues. Furthermore, some individuals opted for Linux setups and appreciated the ability to set up various RAID configurations, emphasizing the card’s adaptability across different operating systems. Cooling is another point of discussion; certain users took measures to manage the temperature effectively, revealing that the card can run hot under heavy workloads without adequate airflow. The Consensus remains that users should closely monitor the thermal management of their systems when using this RAID controller. Overall, users feel that the HighPoint RocketRAID 840C offers substantial value, especially for those looking to implement multiple storage drives or repurpose older hardware into functioning RAID solutions. While there are some notable areas for improvement, particularly concerning driver support, the performance and flexibility of this RAID controller make it a strong contender in its price range. **
