Multigenerational Editorial Review
Watercress is a children's picture book with spare text, incorporating the theme of the difficulty of connecting with family roots, and the processes concerning the assimilation of immigrants. Despite its simple storyline, it has been granted The Newbery Honor award and given best book awards by three children's book evaluation groups. Although some readers mainly enjoyed the story, most found the illustrations weak and lacking in merit, except for one who found it inspiring.
