NIS America Games 8-824 Editorial Review
The Cruel King and the Great Hero: Storybook Edition for Nintendo Switch has received mixed reviews from players. The game is praised for its beautiful hand-drawn graphics, adorable story, and delightful visual experience. Players appreciate the charming character designs and settings, along with an engaging, relaxing storytelling style that appeals to all ages. Additionally, the Storybook Edition is commended for its fantastic extra items and value for the price. However, a recurring issue that significantly impacts the gameplay experience is the slow navigation speed, which hampers exploration in dungeons and leads to a tedious, monotonous experience. The high random encounter rate in simple level designs and the inability to run in most areas, unless over-leveled, are also mentioned as drawbacks. Although the battle system is effective, the slow walk speed takes away from the overall enjoyment of the game. Some players find themselves unable to recommend the game due to these issues. In summary, while The Cruel King and the Great Hero: Storybook Edition offers a visually stunning and relaxing gaming experience with a charming story, its gameplay is hindered by the sluggish walk speed and repetitive level design, which can detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
