This pump is a manual drain submersible pump with plug in and run operation, it is self priming and can not run dry. It can be used on a pool cover with a 10 feet power cord provided but a cable reel might be required for bigger pool covers. The maximum discharge hose length is not specified in the owner's manual but it can be connected to a garden hose with the adapter provided, the hose needs to be 3/4 inch and kept short for the friction. The maximum immersion depth is 23 feet. This pump can handle water temperature up to 95F and has a pulling capacity of just under 3 amps on 110v. Customers' experience with this pump is mostly positive, it efficiently drains hot tubs, pools, and tanks, and is good value for the price.
