Answer: No, this requires Insteon compatible devices, or at least an Insteon hub. -

Does the wall switch have to be on in order for this to control lights or can I turn the lights completely on or off from the remote?
Answer: The Insteon Mini Remote can control other Insteon devices that are connected to an always-hot power source. -

Can this be mounted in a single gang decora style switch plate?
Answer: Yes, it can be wall-mounted using Insteon part #2444B4 to attach the decora wall plate over it to match the look of existing switches.
