Adaptec RAID Controllers 2271800-R Editorial Review
The Adaptec RAID 6805E Storage Controller 2271800-R presents itself as an entry-level RAID solution that appeals particularly to users focused on data safety over speed. While its specifications and performance outcomes indicate that it is not the most powerful card on the market, its reliability in protecting and rebuilding RAID configurations earns it some level of endorsement from users. A user with a complex setup comprising 4 SSDs and 4 8TB spinning HDDs tested the device and shared mixed results. The speeds recorded for RAID configurations were below expectations, particularly for the SSD RAID 10, experiencing a significant bottleneck in write speeds. Comparatively, the results showed that the RAID 10 arrays did not match the performance of standalone SSDs, which would be a concern for users seeking high throughput from their storage systems. However, the card's strength lies in its robust ability to manage RAID setups effectively and its reliability during rebuilds after drive failures—a vital feature for users vested in data security. The review highlights that while rebuilding larger drives can take an impractical amount of time, the assurance that the card will handle these processes seamlessly is crucial for many users. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the card includes two connections, each capable of managing 4 SATA drives, allowing for flexibility in setup. Users have also pointed out that attention must be given to airflow and ventilation due to the tendency of the controller to generate heat, which is something potential buyers should Consider for optimal performance. Despite some frustrations regarding the lack of uEFI support and the feeling of obsolescence in excess of 2 years with this product, the reviewer expresses that it continues to operate without issues. In summary, the Adaptec RAID 6805E is a competent entry-level RAID controller that prioritizes safety over speed. It is ideal for users who need reliable RAID configurations but may not be suitable for those seeking high-performance read/write capabilities. **
