- Know your hardiness zone to choose the correct rose bush for your area
- Heirloom Roses sells only own-root, virus-free roses, which are hardier and come back true to variety if frozen to the ground
- Plant roses from spring to early fall, ensuring the roots have time to establish before the first frost, or after the last frost in the spring
