Roto Metals Specialty Metals Editorial Review
RotoMetals Low-Melting Point 158F Alloy Ingot RotoMetals Low-Melting Point 158F Alloy Ingot is an excellent product that is perfect for casting charms. However, it is important to note that the charms should not be too long and thin as it may easily bend. The product should also not be heated in a good stainless steel pot as it will ruin the finish, and should not be placed near gold or silver jewelry for the same reason. It is best to use a silicone cupcake mold to melt the product in, then put it in a shallow frying pan with water and wait for it to melt. The product is different from Cerrosafe as it has a different melting temperature, and different shrinkage properties. Cerrosafe shrinks when it solidifies, then returns to exact size when it cools, which is why gunsmiths use it. This product, however, expands very slightly and stays that way. It is important to note that this alloy contains a high percentage of lead and cadmium, making it dangerous if inhaled in large quantities. For a non-toxic substitute, Fields meta is recommended. Although it is not well-defined melting point, this product may work with styrofoam casting, as the alloy is molten at 158F, while polystyrene melts at 464F. Additionally, this product can be used for bending brass or copper tubing by melting it and placing it inside the tube before bending and melting it back out.
