The Sunforce 50022 5 Watt Solar Battery Trickle Charger works great for charging your 12V batteries. A sealed lead-acid battery designed for deep cycle service should be used with an amp/hour rating of at least 7 if the light is in a low traffic area and 15 or more if it is in a high traffic area. It won't let it discharge to the point of damaging the battery or batteries. This 50W panel fits perfectly on top of your companionway hatch cover. Even without direct sun, it is keeping your battery fully charged. Simply pull all dip switches to "ON" position to program dusk til dawn. However, either you have a defective unit or it's shutting down/not producing power if you face little power output.
