The Magnepull XP1000-MC-XR-1 is a tool kit containing two tools, the Magnaspot and the Magnepull, designed for locating potential drill site holes and fishing for wires through walls and floors. The Magnaspot performs very well with great penetration through materials like wood, brick, and even stone. It is sensitive and starts indicating from at least 4 feet away. However, it can be noisy, and the one-button feature for power and silence is a bit of a pain. The Magnepull kit is a great concept, but its execution is not so successful. While the magnet is reasonably strong, it can only penetrate drywall. If you have a sheer wall behind that drywall, it will not work. On top of that, insulation can stop the Magnepull dead in its tracks. The kit comes in a steel carrying case, which may not be suitable as the magnets stick to it and can create pinch points. Overall, the Magnaspot gets 4 stars, Magnepull gets 1 star, and the carrying case 2 stars. Customers have found the Magnepull to work well in installing new wiring and moving old wiring, perfectly in venting dryers, range hoods, and bathroom fans, and easy to use with very accurate holes on roofs, siding, or floors. It is worth the investment if you have a remodel that is not a complete tear-out and have to run wires, cables, or vents without destroying the existing drywall.
