Does the mounting plate fit over (and fully cover) an electrical box in the wall similar to how you would mount a wall sconce light?
Answer: Yes it will, but if you’re wall is open you can just put a 2x6 cleat backing and drill a 3/4” hole for the wire and then screw the mountain plate to the 2x6 if you want? If not just install an electrical box and the backing plate will just mount to that. -

What is the depth from the wall when flat against the wall? What are the outer dimensions description looks like 10 x 11 for an 8x8 mirror??
Answer: 3.5" depth from wall when folded flat - Outer dimension is 8x8 then there is the light strip area for 1" all the way around then the actual "Mirror" portion is 6x6. Solid unit.
